Jewell has new signs in town! The final unveiling came on Friday, June 2nd at 7:00 pm at the south sign.
The original Jewell Sign was installed in the early 50's by the Central States Power Company. That sign was demolished in the late 60's. (picture coming soon)
In 1995, Grant Young, then a South Hamilton student, designed a new "Diamond/Gem" Logo that featured a drag boat as well as many Jewell Skyline sillouettes. That design is still used on J.A.D.E. headings and brochures. (picture coming soon)
In 2005 it was recognized that the sign had come into disrepair. A committee was formed at that time with the following members: Michelle Hardy, Rick & Carrie Elsner, and Rick & Janet Young. They organized a Christmas Home Tour to raise seed money for development of a new sign. Support from the whole community followed quickly.
Many thanks to Emel Pruisman, who allowed the east sign to be placed on his property, and the Jerry Johnson family, who allowed the north sign to be placed on their property.
The new sign was designed and built by Signs by Design in Cedar Falls. Four signs were actually designed and the community voted on the winning design.
Many thanks to Rick Young for providing the above information!

** If you're interested in printing off a picture of the sign to print onto a T-shirt, please download this graphic: Jewell Sign.
To print this graphic, set your printer to "Landscape" mode, "Center" on page, then be sure to use the option for "T-shirt Printing". This will reverse the lettering so that when you iron it onto a shirt, the lettering will read normally. You will need special paper which will include the ironing instructions. Good Luck!
If there's enough interest, this site may consider selling Jewell T-shirts. Let us know what you think!
