PUBLIC NOTICE: Sanitary Sewer Jetting Operations
The City will be performing routine sanitary sewer cleaning (jetting) in from Main Street east over the coming days as part of our ongoing maintenance program. This preventive maintenance helps keep sewer lines clear, improves system performance, and reduces the likelihood of sewer backups.
What Homeowners Can Expect
During sewer jetting, high-pressure water is used to clean the inside of the City's sanitary sewer mains. While this is a normal and safe maintenance procedure, residents may notice:
- A gurgling sound from toilets or drains.
- Water movement or bubbling in toilets.
- Temporary sewer odors inside the home.
These occurrences are typically brief and should stop once the cleaning crew has moved through the area.
How You Can Help Prevent Issues
To minimize the chance of water or air pressure entering your home during jetting, we recommend:
- Keep all toilet lids closed while work is being performed in your neighborhood.
- Ensure your plumbing vents are clear and in good condition.
- If you have a basement floor drain that is seldom used, pour a gallon of water into it to maintain the water seal in the trap and help prevent sewer odors from entering your home.
If you experience any unusual plumbing issues during the maintenance, such as water backing up into a drain or toilet, please contact the City immediately so staff can respond promptly.
